Champ Kaneshiro is a local Hawaii TV personality who is using his immense passion to push forward his dream of engaging people and making them laugh. Kaneshiro is the face of  “The Champ Show” on the local, OC 16 television channel. His show is one that explores all aspects of Hawaii, including the people and businesses that make it the paradise it is. This is not your run-of-the-mill type local show. Champ takes his unique ability to connect, and he involves local businesses and people.  A priority of business is to connect. Once you connect, your message spreads faster. The Champ Show is another example of a way of connecting brands to markets. And it uses not just a feeling of “real”, it is 100% real. As Champ explains: “ There are no scripts to my show. Everything is real and most of it is done in one take. It’s honest. We have one camera person (Peter) and one Editor (Sila). And that is how we do it. The people I talk to don’t even know what I am going to say to them. We just talk and it’s real.” I asked Champ some basic questions that I felt would peak the interest of the modern entrepreneur. Here is what he had to say. HBO: What would you advise all small business owners to take note of? Champ: They have to promote! You have to spend money to make money. Especially in times like these, you have to let people know you exist. You have to get out there and let them know you are there. You have to connect with the public and you have to sell your idea. HBO: If you could pick any business to get into, in the current economy, what would it be? Champ: I would get into the food industry. You know Hawaii people love to eat. Especially when you hear that a storm is coming. What does everybody do? They go get toilet paper and rice! I would be the guy selling them the rice. Seriously though, everybody has to eat. HBO: What is your favorite social media tool? Champ: Facebook. You know my kids are on there, so I had to get on there. Had to check up and see what they were doing. Plus, it’s the future. It really is. Just look at how all of the businesses use it. Even politicians. Look at how many politicians are on Facebook. I don’t tweet or anything, but I Facebook every day. HBO: What do you love most about what you do? Champ: I get to make people laugh. I the type of person that as no filter. I cannot control what comes out of my mouth. But I use it to connect with people and they seem to like it. It’s not even that I feel I connect with them, it’s that THEY feel I connect with them. I love going into a store and seeing somebody who says “ hey Champ, I saw something on the show, it was funny.” That makes me feel good. Because I don’t even remember what I say on the show. I go back and watch it and yeah, it is pretty funny. I just love that connection with the people. That connection that makes them smile. As we discussed more and more of Champ’s show and his passion for entertaining, he dropped even more nuggets knowledge that I felt needed to be brought to light. Really think about these next few statements. . . - “ You have to stay loyal to your supporters.” - “ Never say never. Keep chasing the dream of what makes you happy. Be an inspiration to the kids that they can live their dreams too.” - “ Nothing happens for a reason. It is all Cause and Effect. If you don’t Cause anything, it won’t Effect anything.” Check out “ The Champ Show” on OC16. For more information on the show and when to watch, or to stream in online, visit http://www.oc16.tv.
